Anambra Waste to Energy Project (AWEP) is one of the first of such projects under development in West Africa. The plant will receive municipal solid waste provided by the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA).

The AWEP will enhance power generation in the region, provide a valuable source of agricultural organic fertilizer (compost)), produce recyclable pelletized plastics, scrap metal and scrap paper, to act as raw materials for local industries, as well as serve as a means for the State Government to improve and protect the environment due to the decommissioning and closure of local landfills.
